WiOpt 2018 will be held in Xuhui campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). It is the previous main one located in Xujiahui, in the Xuhui District of Shanghai, formerly a largely Catholic area and a site of several educational institutions. Nowadays, Xuhui Campus is situated in the heart of Shanghai.
Most buildings on campus were influenced by American architecture, while the main gate, which was built in 1935, is of traditional Chinese style reflecting the University's earlier status as the "Imperial Polytechnic College". The construction of the campus never came to an end in the past century. Existing buildings: the Middle College building (built in 1898), the original library (built in 1919), the gymnasium (built in 1925), the administrative building (built in 1933), the Xinjian building (built in 1953), the new Upper College building (built in 1955), the second teaching building (built in 1960), Bao Zhaolong library (built in 1985) and Haoran high-tech building (built in 1996) were constructed one after another.
The Xuhui campus has several modern conference rooms, including an auditorium with capacity of 2,000 people, three large conference rooms with capacity of over 200 people each, lecture halls and several small multifunctional conference rooms in different sizes, all equipped with advanced high-tech audio video system. The campus has hosted many international conferences.
On the campus there is a chic and elegant hotel with a total construction area of 8,000 square meters, featuring 90 three-star standard rooms and 24 four-star grand luxury suites. There are scores of hotels roughly a half-mile from the campus, ranging from luxurious to economical ones. There are also many restaurants for off-campus dining, including chain fast food stores and all kinds of dining restaurants.
The proposed conference venue provides a quiet academic atmosphere, and at the same time, enjoys convenient transportation.
